215 Clutch and pressure plate questions
Posted by: jeffantonucci

Hi All - new member here. I've got a Buick 215 stroker motor and it appears to have the Olds 215 flywheel with the original 3x2 flywheel mounting hole pattern. Does anyone make a modern diaphragm type pressure plate to fit this flywheel or do I have to have it re-drilled. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Jeff, Late 60's to 70's 10" NAPA Diaphram replacement for Ford V8. Also just found out Ford Ranger 4.0 OHV V6 10".

I have a Ford 10" and it could probably fit if I drilled the flywheel however my friction surface diameter on my flywheel is only 9.75"

The pressure plate should be the same bolt pattern as the Long style, the 9.5 disc may work fine but you can use a 300 Buick 10" disc. Machine the surface of the flywheel down level same as the outside area..

Buick 215 stroker with 300 crank? Not sure if you have seen this:

"The rear of the Buick 300 crankshaft is 0.56" longer than the Rover crank it replaces. Therefore both the stock Rover and the Buick 300 flywheels will interfere with the bellhousing. The extra crankshaft length also places the flywheel ring gear out of reach of the starter. D&D Fabrication has engineered a special steel flywheel which both fits well inside the bellhousing and places the ring gear in it's proper position. This flywheel is drilled for a 10.4" Chevrolet clutch cover."

Hi Carl - yes but I believe my motor was built by Phil Baker or at least to his specifications. I really have no clue as to the origin of my flywheel except the 9.75 dia friction surface, the 3x2 clutch mounting pattern and the two vent holes which suggest it started as an Olds 215 flywheel.

Phil Baker used to use a Chevy Nova 4 or 6 flywheel to work with the 300 crank.

Ahh, a Phil Baker engine. We don't see those over on this side of the Country.
