Air Flow Meter options for 1988 RR

I have a 1988 Range Rover Classic. It was a 3.5 but is now a 4.2. It runs on dual fuel, or it should, but the air flow meter is stuffed. I have the need for a new one but there few and far between in Oz.
I will ask the question numerous times across the forum to get as much response as possible, so pardon my repetiveness if you come across the same question, but here goes anyway.
Is there more than one option of air flow meter that will suit?
Can you use a just the flap type or can you use a hot wire type?
Any input on this matter would be appreciated.

Giles, Welcome aboard. I think when you say "duel fuel", you mean gas and E85 ? Here in US., it "used" to mean, caburetor, gas and propane. I know precious little about Rover efi.'s, but we have a lot of savy people here. I'm sure some will chime in. Good Luck, roverman.

By duel fuel it can run on petrol and LPG.

Giles, LPG usually means death to flap style air meter in one back-fire. You could fit a later 3.9 hotwire style one but you'd need to change ECU, throttle switch etc. You do see entire setups including manifold & later injectors on EBAY from time to time.

Vitesse developments in Melbourne enlarged many new vehicles to 4.2 back in the late 80's. If you could find someone wrecking one of these, they have an early version of MOTEC hotwire (M5?) on them. I own one of these on LPG & its a faultless performer as far as starting on petrol & changing over to LPG automatically. No Air meter, just a short lenght of chrome 3" pipe with a screw in hot wire sensor between the air cleaner & manifold.

I'll follow that idea through.
For the time being it's running pretty well on gas. I can get it to run on petrol once it's mobile but it's pretty rough.
