range rover on board diagnostic display 17EM
I have a couple of question with its use.
I have installed a 1992 3.5 with factory EFI in a triumph. Car hasn't run yet I plugged the display into the harness and see no read out Does engine need to run for display of fault codes? Does it display anything if no fault codes? Thank you |

Re: range rover on board diagnostic display 17EM
Hey Ian,
No readout on the display is normal. It will only activate if a code is present. The ECU won't record a code unless the engine runs. Not supposed to be that way but thats how it is ITRW. Codes are displayed with Key on Engine off. If more than one code is present you will need to manipulate the serial connector to retrieve them. Turn the key on, disconnect the white serial connector for more than 5 seconds then reconnect, turn off the key and wait for the system relay to cycle off, turn the key on and the next code will display or go blank if no further codes exist. You will need to repeat this process for each code. Sounds goofy but actually works pretty well. Disconnecting the battery wipes the memory completely without displaying codes and the display goes blank again. ( may display code "02" which means the ECU lost battery power.) Hope that makes sense. Cheers Fred |
