Torque Tube update

Anybody using these ? Discussion ? Seems like a good way to remove engine torque, from the twisted chassis equation,(yes I've heard, MGB's don't need it). Thanks, roverman.

Art, the torque tubes that I've seen don't do anything to eliminate twist in the chassis, just act as limiters for rear axle rotation. Most of the factory types I've seen have a soft rubber bushing at the forward end that restricts axle pitch but allows yaw for a good ride. If they were that good at restricting engine torque reaction in the chassis I'd think more drag cars would be using them, but most remove the factory type as on the later generation Camaros and install a good four link or such.

Ok, Not old Ford and Rambler, but rigid mounting of engine to irs. diff's/t-axles. This would be like C5 up, Vette ,drive shaft pn 7131872,(aluminum) and torque tube pn 12564457.Unit is apart and has potential to be shortened. Driveshaft has HD rubber couplings, at each end with(6) Torx,(12 mm).It appears GM went in this direction for ease of assembly,(makes a rolling chassis without a frame or body). Porsche 924,944 and 928 and 61'-63' Pontiac Tempest. I'm not familiar with others.I don't think these would be effective for drag racing,(moment of inertia required). Perhaps other irs diffs and t-axles, could be converted, ie. using the drive train as a stressed/load bearing member. ? Cheers, roverman.

"Really" light. Once you get that C5 drive shaft out of the "tube", I think you could fill it with Helium for levitation/lol ! This C5 stuff is getting in the good value range now. Maybe use this as a super light weight/ conventional drive shaft,( has HD rubber doughnuts-ea. end), back to a t-axle. Don't put this "behind" a trans,(too much torque). Good Luck, roverman.
