Driveline Design
AC 6.1 get's Boxter S (6) speed transaxle, wc's ? "The further out I swim, the longer back to shore".Kind of how I feel now. I "might" be able to use Vette C5 torque tube to Porsche t-axle. This should add beam and torsional stiffness to JH tub. Inboard disk(s) would be desireable, tbd. I would also like a double disk 7 1/4" clutch, mounted back at the t-axle. Keeping the super lightweight aluminum driveshaft, "live" with the engine, should make it dynamically stronger,(inertia) and reduce syncronizer work load. Has anyone seen this done? A picture would be great. Onward, roverman.

Re: Driveline Design
Yep, check out the Alfa Milano or GTV 6.

Re: Driveline Design, rear clutch
Ok, I googled, but no pictures. I need pictures. I prefer not to buy a manual. Thanks, roverman.

Re: Driveline Design
Thanks Fred, Holy Frijole, that is one long t-axle !! I must wonder what the torque capcity of the double disc set-up is ? This is looking like diminishing returns for my build,( C5 torque tube). I have heard the standard C5 drive shaft is good for "up to" 540 hp. I hope that is correct. Looks like I'll start with a 10.5" single disc, a Centerforce cover, and a steel insert/alum flywheel, to get started. T-axle and related parts arrived-yeah ! Onward, roverman.

Re: Driveline Design, got spline ?
Fred and clan, If that Alpha set-up happens to be 15/16-23 spline, like Boxter S, that would be sweet-indeed. I'm checking now on possibly adapting 944 Turbo or 928 torque tube to Boxter t-axle. C5 tube is approx one foot too short. This is because C5 t-axle is 23.5", mount face to axle centerline. Boxter is 8.25" centerline. Onward, roverman.

Re: Driveline Design
Hey Art,
The Alfa pictures are for reference only. Just to give you an idea of how it can be done. There is no way that it would hold up to your anticipated torque level. As far as that goes, the 10.5" clutch that your planning for will need to be pretty special to hold up. Cheers Fred |

Re: Driveline Design, 10.5" clutch ?, update
The initial plan is a 10.4" Centerforce cover and dual friction disk. No drag racing, and clutch engagement around 2,500 rpm., based on how the motor dyno's. Boxter S t-axle turns out to be 1"-23 spline, a perfect match for Porsche 944 Turbo," coupler", to be modded to fit (3) drive lugs on Vette C5 driveshaft/torque tube. Thanks, roverman.
