Another Newbie Question; What can be scavenged form Disco?

Having bought this 96 Discovery with the 4.0 for the MG project; are there any other useful bits I should remove for future use other than all the engine management stuff? Oil cooler? A/C compressor/condenser/evaporator/etc? Diff lock or anti-lock brake system?

Or is all I'm getting is an engine and EFI?

Thanks,
Tim

You can't turn a pig into a racehorse, so the question becomes, how fast can this pig go?

Scavenge everything that you can Tim.
Auto tint rear view mirror, power window regulators, home link garage door opener, engine and trans oil coolers, power door locks, A/c unit, even the sub system in the 5th door. You get the idea.
If you're going for an automatic trans grab the bellhousing and the torque converter. That way you can bolt on a ZF 4HP22 from a bimmer or a volvo etc and have a nice overdrive automatic.
If you've got a GT the rear sunroof from an SE7 is a pretty sweet fit.
Grab the fuel pump module and the inertia switch.
Switches and wire always seem to come in handy.
Power seats?
Depends on your build.
One issue though might be the fuel ECU. Depending upon the market it may be security enabled. This makes it very hard to use unless it's unlocked (read that expensive).
Might have to use something else which is not necessarily a bad idea.
Cheers
Fred

Hi Fred,

Okay, you threw me a curve ball. Fuel ECU? Does this have something to do with 14CUX Fuel injection or is it separate?

Thanks,
Tim

Hey Tim,
It's the fuel injection "brain" box or Electronic Control Unit.
The 14CUX system uses a distributor and if thats what your system has then you're good to go.
I suspect that your 96 has the GEMS system which has coil packs at the rear of the engine.
This is the system that is much more difficult to utilize.

Hey Fred,

I've been reading all about this today. I had no idea this would be a problem, especially since it's an AT motor so the flywheel and crank trigger for the ignition is scrap. Took awhile to figure out what GEMS was. I just couldn't find a 5-speed Land Rover around here. I really liked the ignition set up as it is at the rear of the block and the wires run cleanly around the engine. I wish I could figure this out . . .

Going to have a cocktail and make dinner before I get back to research. Thanks so much for your response.

Cheers,
Tim
