aluminum drive shaft and torque tube
Stronger than you might think. 3.5" od x 55" long x .125" wall was tested by Action Machine to 44k ft. lbs of torque ! I'm buying the tubing to upgrade my Vette C5 driveshaft to 3.0" dia. and approx 12" longer, for Hemi Healey. I will possibly splice/lengthen torque tube like amount. Onward, roverman.

Re: aluminum drive shaft and torque tube
Yep. I used to install aluminum prop shafts on heavy trucks. Some were composite wrapped.

Re: aluminum drive shaft and torque tube
Junkyard Aerostar van aluminum drivelines are popular swap in newer Mustangs. Think I mentioned to Jim Blackwood for IRS halfshafts.

Re: aluminum drive shaft and torque tube, update
Clan, I really like this C5 design for light weight, rubber couplers at each end, and the beam and torsion strength, it will add, to the Healey. The new material is $1/inch, but sure beats $850 for a standard length, larger dia. Found a place in Pomoma that can upgrade the shaft and lengthen the torque tube-yea ! Onward, roverman.
