5 speed from a land rover into a TR8

How does one go about this? Is it possible? I crawled under a manual 95 LR in a junk yard local to me and looked at the 5 speed. It's bolted to a transfer case and looks very unfamiliar to me. Does it just tear down to a point where I can bolt an SD1/TR8 style bellhousing to it and go from there? I have heard that the later LR R380 gearboxes fitted to the 4.0 are stronger than the LT77 that came in the TR8.

You have to change the input shaft since the bellhousing is extended and also will have to look at the back case too since the transfer case is attached for the four wheel drive. It is a lot of work.

I can't think of good reason to choose a LR box over a wc-T5 ? Ratios on the LR R380 ? Additional weight, height and cost of parts ? Oops, maybe shifter location or If you lived in England, perhaps. Cheers, roverman.
