Oil breather/Valve cover baffling
Posted by: rficalora

I'm getting oil dripping from my breather. There's no baffling in my valve covers -- probably means my PCV is also sucking some oil. What's a good solution (besides changing the valve covers; I like the look of the ones I have)?

Rockers are [at least currently] stud mounted but stamped vs. rollers - don't know how much room between them & the holes but will look when I get home this evening.

Stainless steel kitchen scratch pad in breather. You have to buy a new PCV with built in baffle or replace with breather with tube for inline PCV.

Thanks Jim -- but, what in the world is a kitchen scratch pad? You're mistaking me for someone who knows his way around a kitchen ;)

Rob, The Stainless steel Scouring pad is in the kitchen section of Walmart and other stores. Looks like steel wool but 1000 times coarser. I also buy Scotchbite sanding pads there, much cheaper than auto parts stores. If you put the scouring pad up into the breather cap it works as a baffle. The older cars used similar material in the breather.

Rob, A picture is worth a thousand words! Stuff this in your breather cap:

The PCV will only pull while under good vacuum, then the breather exhausts the crankcase pressure when into the throttle, that is why they route the breather to the air cleaner base to pull the blowby in there, I doubt there would be enough volume to get oil all the way to the air cleaner base.

i suggest that you go to auto parts shop and get your parts changed or let them examine it and seek for their good advice
