Bad plug wire related to over heating?

My car has been running hot - gets up to about 210 with a 180 thermostat & fan comes on @ 185. It didn't used to get that hot. I noticed it was getting hotter in Palestine - it was getting up to 195 or 200 there. I thought maybe rust in the engine was clogging my radiator so I backflushed with no change. Pulled a couple plugs today to see if maybe it's lean. Plugs looked OK, but also checked plug wires while they were disconnected and one of them was bad. Infinite resistance. Pulled the boot off and could see carbon on the lead & could see where the spiral core was burned. I cut about 1/4" more of the insulation too get past the burned spot and resistance was fine there.

I don't think I've been running on 7 cylinders but had noticed some missing so think the charge has been jumping that spot resulting in a weak spark and probably no spark sometimes.

What's the likelihood this could be related to it running hot?
