Air Intake Accumulator ??

I was under the hood of my Tahoe the other day taking the air intake off. I noticed that the ducting from the filter instead of running directly into the intake plenum has what appears to be an accumulator molded into the duct at the plenum intake. I suppose it’s for modulating the plenum pressure during acceleration and deceleration. I’m wondering if it would be a worthwhile addition to the conversion.

Hey Larry,
The intention of that "accumulator" is to attenuate the pulses of the intake to reduce their noise level.
It's just a specialized muffler tuned to a specific frequency.
However, the two stroke world uses something similar called a "boost bottle" to tune the intake for more power at specific rpms.
Would it work on a four stroke engine? I don't really know. If it did the gain would be in a very narrow rpm band. And you would need 8 chambers. It would look pretty cool though.
Cheers
Fred

Fred,

Thanks for the info. Do I really want to reduce the noise level on an MG with the lid down? Don't think it would make much difference.
