RV8 billet cranks ?

There is a skilled U.S. billet crank manufacturer, that would consider building min. (5), at a time. Serious only, please, and no chatter about how great the oem. cranks are, and they "never" break. This is NOT an ad. Cheers, roverman.

I am a long way into this engine already, and at this point, the crank is the weakest link. HOW MUCH?

While you're at it, maybe you should consider single plane? They're available in England.

Like Larry said $? And what specs? Must all 5+ be identical stroke, bearing size, etc?

IMHO,using 2.5" mains and 2.0/2.1" rods, to be a good plan. Using available rods, also good. Being billet, I'm pretty sure strokes will be "open". Of course the sbb folks will want 3." mains, and giant strokes. I'm sending a crank drawing, for bid puposes. Too early to fish with prices. Anyone can get a one-off billet crank made for 2,600-$2,800, if you don't mind waiting 8 weeks minimum ? This scenario, is to improve that situation. TBC, roverman.

My understanding of single plane cranks in a V8 is that they shake pretty bad. Anyone had that experience?

Hey Larry,
I have a 78 308 GTS.
It does vibrate/resonate at various rpm's.
But nothing that would be found to be objectionable.
It is a pretty short stroke engine so that needs to be taken into account.

Art,
I'd be in on a large journal crank.
Something in the 75mm stroke range.

Fred

If you take the flat plane route remember to add another grand for the matching cam.

Fred, When you say LARGE journal, really 3.0" ?? 75mm = 2.953". Sounds like a "spec 32v. engine"? Jukka, I suspect most folks will want 3.4"+ strokes ? A 180 crank, with a large stroke, will prove problematic/impossible for one wearing dentures. If you "need" a roller cam for a 180 crank build, I have the blanks. Likely to be 500-$600. US. Let's talk journal sizes, long vs short snout, and strokes. Onward, roverman.

The large journal Rover engine 63.5mm/2.5'' Art.
55.5mm/2.185" crankpin, long nose, and 180' flat plane.

Cheers
Fred

Maybe you should call this the JLL crank. (Jerry Lee Lewis)
