302 ID help
I have an opportunity to pick up another 302, but I'm having problems with the ID to know what year, roller, etc. I have looked at the location where the ID number are stamped.....no number? I did manage to get a mirror up above the started and got this pic, keep in mind it's reversed image. The numbers don't match Fords numbering. But I have never seen a stamping like this, EVER! Any Help

Re: 302 ID help
I believe that's your casting date, which wouldn't help identify the block. Look for a machined pad with numbers stamped in it somewhere. I don't know Ford, but often it is an extension of the deck and the numbers get machined away if it is decked.

Re: 302 ID help
There is a casting/manufacturing code cast into the block above the starter. That will tell you the casting date and what line of car/truck it was originally installed into. Your picture doesn't show this code. The only sure way to tell if it's a roller cam block is to pull the intake. Ford doesn't use stamped numbers on a machined pad like many other car makers.
