Question before Building/ordering a Ford 8" rear end

I would like to hear from anyone that has used a Ford 8" rear end in an MGB or other model.
If you could give me specifics like gear ratios, overall widths with wheel size, third member modifications, disc brake brands and sizes etc.
Not sure at this point whether I will build it or order a complete unit from the professionals like Currie.
Thanks for any input you can provide.

Hello Jim
I just did this over the summer, I am running a 2001 4.8 lsx chevy with a turbo 350. I put a ford 8 inch in my 1974, mine has 273 gear which is awesome it is just like I put an overdrive tranny in. my rpm's dropped on the highway so much I love it.what I did was took my measurements and cut the tubes myself and then ordered axles from Moser, I had them put the mgb wheel pattern so I could use my same rims also I welded the pads on the axles. I kept the drum brakes but some day I will do the rear disc. the only thing I can tell you is take your time and triple check your measurements . I can't remember the exact measurement from backing plate to backing plate. the only thing I would change with the third member is put a posi unit in. just can't afford that right now. good luck and don't be afraid to ask me any questions

Thanks Bill
I am a little suprised by the 273 gears. I was thinking of a much higher ratio.
I do plan on some long trips in this so you may have changed my mind on that.
The posi is a must.
More questions soon!
