Cast aluminum oil pan Buick / Olds 215 V8
I have been looking for several years now for a aftermarket cast finned aluminum oil pan/sump for the Buick / Oldsmobile/ Rover 3.5 215 V8 with no success. Oddly enough a Dry Sump cover for the Buick/Olds/Rover 215 V8 is available, but no oil pan. There are Buick Nailhead big block, Triumph TR4, TR6 and MGB cast finned aluminum oil pans being manufactured currently, but nothing for the little small block GM 215 V8. I would like to have one for my 1931 Blower Bentley "Special" with a Supercharged Olds 215 V8. Any leads or advise on who, what or where this "Holy Grail" can be found?

You could make a "replica"
Braze or solder some lengths of 1/8th or 1/4'' square stock onto a steel pan. A little bit of bodywork and some paint. And Ta-da! a real looking fake finned pan. Live like you mean it. Fred |
WANTED: Finned cast aluminum oil pan Rover/Olds/Buick 215 V8
After several years of researching I realize that Cal Custom, Mickey Thompson, D&D, Rimmer Bros. Rover, Morgan, etc or any known supplier has ever manufactured a cast finned aluminum oil pan for the Rover / Olds / Buick 215 V8 engine. A.R.E. sells a dry sump version for $1350 and there are several reworked modified stock oil pans offered. Yet, nothing beats the beauty of a finned cast aluminum oil pan. My only other option is too have a one-off sand cast for a small fortune......." if you want to play, your going to pay!"

Re: Cast aluminum oil pan Buick / Olds 215 V8
Nailhead has 4.75" bore centers, same as a Buick 455.
Small Block Buick / Rover has 4.24" bore centers. Nailhead oil pans aren't going to be any more useful than a BBB oil pan and are going to be significantly too long. |
Re: Cast aluminum oil pan Buick / Olds 215 V8
I'm assuming one of the reasons they never mad a cast finned oil pan is because of ground clearance issues. These engines went in sports cars where they took a beating as it was. LR did have some versions that came with cast pans, but not finned. If it were me, I'd start with one of those LR pans and try and faux something up. A buddy of mine did some sweet faux finned valve covers with VW insignias for a Rover powered Karman Ghia.

OK, You don't like the looks/depth of the "rover" oem aluminum pan ? As suggested, the sbf., aftermarket pan, is fairly close, on length. To water jet 1 + flanges, and weld to fit. Use a verticle mill, with a slitting saw and arbor, will make a clean precision cut. Good Luck, roverman.
