Fuel pump issues- Olds 215- URGENT
I installed a glass bowl fuel pump that was for the Jetfire 215. I did it for looks. I have run the engine gravity fed until this point, and with the pump last night. The carb has been dumping fuel out the overflow and once I shut the car off, gas continues to trickle into the carb. I had gas coming out the left tail pipe and when I drained the oil today it had a lot of gas in it. I was losing oil pressure and assumed it was because of this. I read somewhere that the stock 215 pump was aron 4.5 pounds, and the Jetfire was 6-8. Is this correct? do I need to swap over to the other fuel pump? I'm trying to make it to my first car show tomorrow and this is hanging it all up. Thanks.

If you have fuel running through the carb with the engine off. Then it's probably some trash that's stuck in the needle and seat of the carb. Your car will still gravity feed when it's shut off even with the fuel pump installed. So clean out the carb and you should be fine.
I would install a shutoff valve in the line just to be safe. A nice old timey brass one would look good. Or you can hide an electric one that is powered with the ignition. Cheers Fred |

I haven't heard the Jetfire was that high of pressure. Not a blow-through application, so no need. roverman.

According to Rock Auto, when you look up a fuel pump, for a turbocharged Jetfire 215, one of the options is: "AIRTEX E8016S Electric Pump; Solenoid;12 volts; 2.5-4.5 PSI; 30 GHP; 5/16 hose."
If that's accurate, it shouldn't be a pressure problem, but I would still trust an actual pressure reading on a gauge more. |

Yup, all that work to swap a new pump and still had the problem. I pulled the carb apart last week and found a TINY piece of rubber in the drivers side needle. Fill the crankcase with about two quarts of gas twice. All these oil changes suck! But I got it figured out. Thanks!
