I just got a fresh tank of argon and 5 lbs of si bronze rod. I planed to use it for body work patch panels Have tried it on 22 gage sheet steel and it really flows out nice. Kind of like a high speed torch. It will be awhile as I have to get the coolant pump plumbed first. I'm not sure I have the carbs under complete control yet. Life has been a lot better since I put that bigger fan behind the radiator.

I haven't specifically used Si-Bronze on stainless but I have some rod I use for brazing copper lines that may be very similar. It is commonly used around here on air conditioning work as a fluxless silver solder substitute and works extremely well for that, better than anything else I have ever used on copper from tin/lead solder all the way up to brass and silver solder. If it wets the stainless as well as it does copper then there's little reason to think you couldn't use it to torch braze the stainless and I could see it doing an excellent job. The only downside would be appearance, as it turns brown, so if making a polished part you'd have very visible seam lines. And of course you couldn't weld it afterwards.

Electroless nickel plating is also suited for aluminum. I think up to .002" thick ? "Someone" in SoCal may have a tank, large enough for your tank ? Art.

Has anyone used Alvin Lab Metal as a gas tank sealant? My TR3 tank had a seep on the bottom seam many years ago and I pulled the tank, cleaned it with Alvin Lab Metal solvent and applied a thinned out coat of Lab Metal to the seam. It never did leak again but then something else could have plugged the leak from the inside out. Just thinking

Jim,

Make sure to use some "special brand" fuel stabilizer in that tank!
