What brand/type of system are you interested in? I have a Mega-squirt on mine.

Re: after market efi
Just curious. Unless you are modding the engine, why wouldn't you just use the 14CU series FI?
It's dirt cheap and needs no tuning. |

Re: after market efi
Lots of people do use 14CUX, and it works well... but it doesn't fit easily under an MGB bonnet.
On my particular installation, the mass airflow sensor wouldn't fit neatly between my cowl-induction air cleaner and the Rover plenum... so, instead, someday I'd like to emulate this installation: Lorenz Hassenstein's Rover-powered MGB with aftermarket EFI (32 photos) except with the L-bend adapter pointing toward the firewall, sortof like this: (my car...) If you look closely at Bill Jacobson's installation, posted earlier, you'll notice he's also using the MGB's cowl vent for induction air. The appearance is much neater, and of course the air supply is cooler there. At road speed there's a small pressure boost too. |

Re: after market efi
That explains it then.
I have a TR8. For that application, it seems ideal - plenty of space under there for the stock intake manifold and plenum. The setup is dirt cheap and plentiful on eBay. After the time and effort spent Megasquirting the 6, no way would I go anywhere near it again if there was a bolt-on option. |
Re: after market efi
You can actually shorten the stock 14CUX or 4CU systems by around 20mm fairly easily .. i have done a few for MBG fitment ... I am told a 'C' bonnet also adds a little clearance although I have not tried it.
There is also a new 'cross over' manifold available here in the UK which uses throttle bodies or side draught carbs and should fit easily under the bonnet .. but you would need a management system like OMEX to make the throttle body installation simple .. and they could end up being rather pricey! Just a thought:) Shaun |
