I think this is a remarkable technical article because it provides a lot of insight into the thinking of the engineers who designed the Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Rover aluminum V8: "The New Buick Aluminum Engine" (including 41 original black-and-white illustrations.)

If you like that article, you'll probably also enjoy this collection of British Leyland Service Training documents on maintenance and repair of the MGB GT V8 and specifically its engine: "MGB GT V8 - TECHNICAL AND SERVICE NOTES" (including 29 original black-and-white illustrations.) This one also includes torque specs, S.U. carburetor maintenance, MG transmission, and Laycock overdrive stuff.

WHat's up with the horizontal pushrods for the exhaust valves!?? The push rod goes right through the centerline of the bores. Interesting. What does the rocker arms look like? Are they sideways?
The pushrods look like they are inline with the exhaust valves.

Doesn't it bother you, however, that it took nearly 50 years to finally come up with an updated block that wouldn't lose sleeves, fret maincaps or crack behind the cylinders. That's those new aftermarket Cosworth blocks I'm talking about. Also after nearly 50 years..... the heads still need help...

No Greg, because the problems you've identified are more associated with later (Rover) versions of the engine.
