Pilot bushing for 1961 215
Posted by: Richl705

I have read some about the need to do some grinding on the 1964 300 crankshaft in order to fit the pilot bushing and was wondering if there are any such concerns for the pilot bushing for the standard 215 crankshaft. My 215 engine came out of a 1961 with an automatic transmission. Is there any work that needs to be done or is this crankshaft a direct cross over from automatic to manual (GM T5)? Do any of our sponsors sell the pilot bushing? Thanks

No. Just call Mark at D & D. Tell him which tranny you will be using & he will send the correct pilot bushing.

The bushing for a 215 crankshaft isn't anything special... I go mine at my local NAPA.

I wasn't sure that he would be using a T-5 like we are. My last one came from NAPA or Advance Auto, can't remember.

FWIW, most 300's had automatics and had a smaller hole in the end of the crank. My engine is one of those. Mark at D&D sent me a bushing that I had the outer surface turned down on in order to use a T-5. The machinist took the slightest amount too much off and I installed it using red Loctite paste and gently heated it with a propane torch to activate the Loctite. I was told that the paste needs to get warm to work properly.
