Head gaskets.. Buick 300 or Rover 4.6 bore size.
For those of you who have big bore 215 or Rover 4.6 based engines.. Im guessing a few have high compression..
Im wondering what you are using for head gaskets.. are there any aftermarket composite or MLS type gaskets available? |

OK..
Cometic can make MLS for Rover 4.6 size.. $92 each. anyone else?? The only other gasket I found for a Buick 300 was a basic felpro.. I think it was a stock type steel shim. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 12/02/2008 01:40PM by hoffbug. |

Which is really the same thing except maybe a slight difference in bore size. So I o-ringed the deck and decided to re-use my copper head gaskets for the 215 after I punch out the bores. Jim |

I'm pretty sure I just ordered Buick 300 head gaskets from D&D. They seem to fit OK. I wonder how they will hold up to 11.5:1ish CR.

Re: Head gaskets.. Buick 300 or Rover 4.6 bore size.
I am in the final stages of a 4.0/Buick crankshaft stroker build. I decided to use the Rover composite gaskets. The decision was made because the fire ring on the Rover gasket covers the steel sleeve of the Rover 4.0 and the Buick 300 gasket does not. The rover gasket does extend into the chamber on the Buick 300 head but Woody at The Wedgeshop tells me he has used this setup for many years without problem. I was concerned using the buick gasket would not lock the sleeve into the block the way the Rover gasket would. Since the 4.0/4,6 blocks are prone to sleeve slip I didn.t want to take a chance

Seems sensible to me. I decided to re-use my copper 215 gaskets so I had Dale o-ring the deck of my 340 block. Now I have to make a die to punch the bores in the gasket out to the right size but it's too cold right now to mess with it.

Thanks Bill
I am going to an aftermarket T-top sleeve... ( westwood).. so that wont be an issue with my block. |

Re: Head gaskets.. Buick 300 or Rover 4.6 bore size.
There are a few available .. we supply either 88, 95 or 97mm ... if memory serves they are around £35 ($60) a pair. If you need tin gaskets to get the right compression then the biggest bore size i know of is 94.04mm for standard 3.9 litre engine.
The t-liner will work with either version .. if you have 4.0/4.6 heads (10 bolt) then composites will give 9.35:1 and tins 10.3:1 on standard High Comp pistons .. if you have 3.5 / 3.9 heads (14 bolt) then you CR would be 8.6:1 on composites and 9.35:1 on tins. I hope this helps. Shaun |

I have a set of 215 copper head gaskets I can sell, they've been punched out to a 3.825" bore. Have been used once without o-rings so they're nice and flat. Should be annealed and cleaned with scotchbrite. Turned out they wouldn't work with the 340.
