Source for Buick 300 Tin Head Gaskets
I want to buy a pair of replacement Buick 300 head gaskets. I have a Rover 4.6 fitted with Buick 300 heads with the combustion chambers reduced down to 36cc.
To get a decent compression ratio I need the original steel shim head gaskets [think these are about 0.018 in thick] not the Felpro composite type [0.040 thick]. The gaskets I have fitted already are GM1357871 but I don’t know if these are still available. Mark at D&D says he doesnt have any and doesnt know where to get them. Who can supply the thin steel shim gaskets please? Do TA keep them? Or can I use the Rover 3.9,4.0,4.6 tin type that are still available from Rimmers even though they protrude slightly into the combustion chamber? Thanks |

Re: Source for Buick 300 Tin Head Gaskets
Thanks guys for your help. Yes The Buick Farm has them part # 1357871 - steel shim .015in thick. These are for a 1964 Buick 300 with a 95mm bore.
The Rover gaskets suit a 3.9/4.6 with a 94mm bore which is what I have, but these gaskets intrude slightly into the 300 head's combustion chamber which makes me reluctant to use them. On the other hand the Rover gaskets sit on the top of the bore sleeve a bit more fully I guess as they're meant for the slightly narrower bore i think I read somewhere that Woody has used the Rover head gaskets with 300 heads without any problems despite the slight overlap. |
