Recognize this axle?

These are snapshots of a stock MG RV8, courtesy of mgrv8.com:

It seems that the RV8 model had a limited slip differential and 3.31 gears (as well as twin taper-leaf elliptic springs and telescopic dampers, twin lower torque control arms, and an anti roll bar). Cool... but exactly what kind of axle is that? Anybody know? I'm just curious...

Yes it's a Dana-Spicer.

But from what? It had to have been used in something more common. British Salisbury axles are DANA's for all intents and purposes anyway which makes me wonder what interchangeablity there is between late B axles and some common DANA's. Here is a clip from a Rover web site thread. I realize that this thread is referring to the large DANA 60 but there may be some compatibilities useful to us.

"Salisbury Lockers and Gears
Many of you may know that the Salisbury is closely related to the Dana 60. Knowing this we can fit Dana gears in a Salisbury housing without any trouble. All the bearings, except the pinion nose bearing, are the same. There is a standard nose bearing that is used to fit Dana gears in the Sals.
Even the carrier split is the same!
Standard Dana 60 gear ratios include 3.55:1, 3.73:1, 4.10:1, 4.56:1, 4.88:1, 5.29:1 and lower!
Dana Gears cost $250 per set
Expensive standard Rover ratios are limited to 3.54:1, 4.10:1, 4.75:1
Rover gears are very expensive new so we try to find them used.
Used prices around $300 per set."

Same info applies to the Jag IRS which is a Salisbury/Spicer/Dana44. In addition to the pinion nose bearing, the Dana uses 3/8" ring bolts where the Salisbury uses 7/16" but spacers can be used.

I love the look of that exhaust and would like to see that on the cars we build here. If it was affordable enough it would probably be a good item for one of the various vendors on this site to consider. I would but have little time- so who's up for to take the challenge? For I4, V6 and V8 appications. :-)
