Mini starters for Buick 215 and Rover V8
Hi
Who manufactures aftermarket mini starters for the Buick 215 and Rover V-8. It looks like Denso is one .... any others? It looks like there are two different parts numbers. Does anyone know what the difference is? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/24/2007 11:28PM by hoffbug. |

TSI has them in Pandora Ohio
[www.tsimportedautomotive.com] I have one on my Rover 3.5 and it has been through all sorts of heat and really bad conditions. |

Mine came in a Weber box.
The Buick 215 starter nose is slightly smaller in diameter. D & D sent me an adapter ring so that I can still use it when I switch to a Rover 3.9. |

Re: Mini starters for Buick 215 and Rover V8
Does any other manufacturer make a mini high torque starter for the Buick 215 than the above ones? I see references in builds to a Tilton starter but cannot find a Tilton part number..

And, yet one more reason to use the Buick 300. The stock GM mini starter works fine and costs around a hundred bucks.
The starter you need is available. I don't know if prices have come down any. Jim |

I don't know how "mini" you need, but.

Re: Mini starters for Buick 215 and Rover V8
Hi All
The Buick starter "hole" is about 1/8" Dia smaller than the Rover. Because I am exceedingly frugal, I did purchase a Rover Denso type starter from Rock Auto - NAD101490 at around $120 delivered. Once I verified the dimensions, I disassembled the starter to get just the cast aluminum "nose" in hand. With a lathe, it would be easy to reduce the diameter to the required dimension. Since I don't have a lathe, but do have a degree of patience, I marked the desired dimension with a Sharpie, and using a hand file, worked my way around the "cone", reducing the dimension to the desired measurement. Go slow, and verify the "round" and the dimension often. Once it was where I wanted it, I dressed the circumference with emery cloth torn in 1/4" strips and reassembled. Took about 1 1/2 hours by being slow and careful. Works a treat. If I ever need to replace it, I'll just swap out my custom "nose" for the replacement. John |
