Stripped threads 4.0 head

I have been rebuilding a 4.0 engine from a 1996 Range Rover. I have been having some head gasket problems, and yesterday while installing the bolts, two of the long bolts stripped out the threads from the block.
My question is, what is the accepted way to repair this? I have read elsewhere that some use double helicoils, while others use something called Timesert. These look promising, but the kit for a Rover engine is, frankly, outrageously priced for a one time effort.
I have also read that helicoils can "back out" over time. Anyone had any trouble with this?
