Mallory Distributor Caps

My son called in to say that he had finally traced down his ignition problem. The center button on his Mallory Unilite distributor had cracked and was intermittantly losing contact. It has been a frustrating week for him, chasing down the problem. And a head-scratching week for me trying to diagnose by long distance.
Since a lot of V6 users here have used the Mallory during transplants, I wonder if anyone else has experienced (or heard of others) this problem?

I had one on a SBC and had the center button come up missing once. It was a brand new cap with less than 10 miles on it. I looked and looked for the problem I finally pulled the distributor and went HEI. I gave it to my uncle he pulled the cap laughted and still uses it to this day. Matt
