This subject comes up every now and then but today I had the opportunity to weigh a 1977 MGB axle with some accurate scales and the weights are as follows;
Axle complete with brakes, springs, ant sway bar 225 lbs
Axle complete with brakes but no other bolt on parts is 163 lbs
At the same time I weighed a MGB overdrive gearbox and the weight was 111 lbs with oil, gear lever throw out arm and bearing but no slave cylinder or mounting bracket

Some day maybe some bright young fella will write software for a spider that will go get all these weights and dimensions that we've posted over the years and stack them up in one place, wouldn't that be nice?
