RV8 x 2
As in V16, yeah, I know-huh. Scaring-up the parts and benchtop engineering. Not like freight-train dragster ! Shortest, reasonable length combo. No mods to blocks, dry-sump and accessories are gear driven from between the two blocks. One piece girdle of .75" thick 7075 T6 and one piece cast alum. pan. Rear of front crank broached to 1 3/8'-10, spline. Snout of rear crank, male splined to fit.
For more gray hair and beyond, Art. |

Like this?
[bangshift.com] So that vould be a W16. Well, easier perhaps with 3D printing? Hook it to a TH400. And it's not as if you have anything else to do lol Ivor |

Re: RV8 x 2
So that LS-based, not-really-a-W16 (despite what the article may say) still isn't running now four years after the piece was written?
Just sayin' |

Re: RV8 x 2
It seems as if my fellow BV8 folks are lacking confidence of completion ? Insipient negatism,(possibly earned), NOT carved in granite ! There is a chance, I might actually do this. Building a bucket, has been on my,( ) list, for long time. One good reason for build is RV8 based, will prove merits of BW 3040 trans. Onward, Art.

Re: RV8 x 2
Big thanks to Lenco for selling me a scrap input shaft. 3/8"-10. SBB and RV8 have a 1 3/8" snout=handy. Art.

Re: RV8 x 2
It'll be mighty wide.
Going into a Galaxie? Or another equally wide boat? Or a boat? At least with a Sniper you won't have to worry about a special intake adaptor to level up the carbs. I'm sure that we have every confidence with sufficient people and budget and time you could do this. Presumably 2 x 215s. Ivor |

Re: RV8 x 2
So basically you want to build a motor with the same displacement as a big block V8 but with more than twice the complexity, more than twice the internal friction, and occupying considerably more installed volume (and likely delivering considerably less net output).
Knock yourself out. Different isn't always better. |

Re: RV8 x 2
Oho!
Didn't read the OP properly. End to end. Caramba. That's an awful lot of torque going through the nose of the rear crank. Ivor |

Re: RV8 x 2
Mmmm, but it puts torque into the crank nose. Which was not designed as a torque receiver.
Maybe it's OK. Part of the journey. Ivor |

Re: RV8 x 2
The Fittipaldi brothers (Emerson and Wilson?) raced a VW beetle powered by two engines joined end on end in Brazil in the late sixties. Both went on to be F1 drivers. Was that the first or only flat 8?
