But it was! An alcohol/water mix, but there was nothing stopping you from filling that little bottle with straight alcohol or even an alcohol/nitromethane mix! (model airplane fuel for instance, or racing fuel) I'm sure there were a few who tried that witch's brew.

Water/alcohol injection is still a pretty cool idea for a track-day car like this one:
Westfield with Snow Performance "Boost Cooler" system.
