By big port, what do you mean? Buick 300 or maybe TA Performance or? Mickey's Buick powered Indy Car used a downdraft manifold but Lance Reventlow's Scarab used the sidedraft manifold with DCOE Webers. According to the "Souping the Special" article, the Scarab engine (239 cubic inches) 58mm DCOE carburetors with 1.85 inch venturis made "considerably more horsepower than the 45 DCOEs with 1.57 inch venturis tried earlier." So how did you come up with the patterns to the Mickey Thompson sidedraft intake?
[www.teambuick.com] I recently came up with the DCOE sidedraft in the attached pictures. The carburetors are genuine Webers and I got it relatively inexpensively since the Buick/Rover manifold has taller ports that don't match Rover or Buick 215/300 ports. I plan to have them welded to size. I do need to find a thermostat housing as the manifold takes a smaller diameter one than the Buick/Rover. I'd appreciate any leads on the thermostat housing. I expect it's from a British or European engine of some sort. |

indeed side draft is my manifold.! Bought pattern and manifold decades ago, Beal's Cstings ? For tiny thermostat housing, I intend custom billet, attached with horizontal Bajo clamp, with sized restricting washers for temp control. I talked to a very clever "tech" at Redline/ Webber.. When you compare cfm ratings, 48mm DCOE is adequate for any possible RV8. Cheers, Art. |

Corrections/etc a, Could 58mm DCOE;s be a typo ? . b., Banjo clamp. :More likey 239" motor used 48mm DCOE's.
FWIW, a 48DCOE with a 38mm choke is rated at 296 cfm./ per barrel ? Potential power # 's from these theoretical flows, will destroy a standard, cast RV8 crank in short order. Plan B ? Onward, Art. |

Shelby ran 48mm IDA Webers on his 289 Cobras. Independent runner CFM doesn't translate to 2 or 4 barrel common plenum CFM ratings. I've got actual dyno for a set of 48mm IDAs on Hall Pantera intake (Ford 351C) versus a Holley Strip Dominator single plane intake manifold and a Holley 4 barrel. Compared to 48mm IDAs, the single plane started making more power above approximately 480 HP but had a much broader power curve below. That agrees with what David Vizard said about his 48mm IDA testing (they become restrictive above 500 HP compared to a good single plane and 4 barrel combo). |

I suspect the 8" runner length on Reventlow, will have advantages over downdraft manifolds. Making 500+ hp. on a NA , RV8
will quite a chore, even with TA heads. Onward, Art. |
