Two, two barrels, really ?
Dare to be different, your results may vary. RV8 with Offy SP. manifold. New Carter BBD;s are about $60.ea., now. Adequate flow.

Offenhauser made two different 2 x 2 barrel intake manifolds for the Buick/Olds/Rover aluminum V8. The basic one was part number 5164 and was an Equa-Flow design, sort of a single plane but split plenum and very short runners (mostly plenum) and was drilled for 3 bolt Stromberg or small pattern 4 bolt Rochester 2GC carbs. Part number 5262 was the same intake but drilled and bored for the large pattern Rochester 2G carbs. Edelbrock also made a 2 x 2 barrel intake manifold but it was a dual plane. I had one and, compared to the later Edelbrock Performer Rover, it has longer inner runners and shorter outer runners and is symmetric front to rear. The Edelbrock intake was dyno tested in "Modifying GM's Aluminum V8s" Hot Rod Magazine June 1961. In the "Souping the Special" chapter of the 1963 "Hot Rodding the Buick" book (by Bob Russo, Spotlite Books #537 from Hot Rod Magazine) there are pictures of both the Edelbrock and Offenhauser 2 x 2 barrel intake manifolds. > New Carter BBD;s are about $60.ea., now. I assume those are Chinese copies. Are tuning parts available? The Rochester 2GC carbs were used in circle track applications and you can get tuning parts like jets. |
Re: Two, two barrels, really ?
Dan,
Remains to be seen on BBD tuning parts,( Carter) ? I see flow enhancement potential with all these manifolds. Underside of all throttle bores are sharp ! I will start with a large diameter dovetail cutter and finish with suitable porting burr. I suspect carb spacers, with anti-reversion, should help. Cheers, Art. |

Re: Two, two barrels, really ?
Art, this one is for sale on Facebook (Cookeville, TN) and has the Offenhauser 2x2 barrel intake and Offenhauser valve covers with matching finned air cleaner and some sort of custom oil pan. It's an Oldsmobile 215 stroked with a Buick 300 crankshaft Silvolite Ford/Mazda 3.0L V6 pistons (hypereutectic with coated skirts, 1.5/1.5/4.0 mm rings). That combo can be built with either 5.7" SBC or 5.66" 215 rods.

Re: Two, two barrels, really ?
I would be concerned about durability of 215 rods in a stroker, I hope build, in picture has good baffling of flat-bottom pan. Needs 300 Buick exhaust manifolds. Onward, Art.

Re: Two, two barrels, really ?
At least the Buick 215 rods are forged unlike the later Buick 300/340/350 rods. Yeah that pan definitely needs trap doors.

Re: Two, two barrels, really ?
I like the ex-nascar Pankle and Carillo rods you can buy for a little over a C note on ebay for a full set but IDK if you could find short enough ones for a stroker 215.
