Lifter noise

On a newly built Rover 4.35 engine which has a Crower 50232 cam and crane Hi-Rev lifters i'm experiencing bleed down of the lifters if the engine isn't started for a week or two.

The preload was set at 25 thou to allow for bedding in the engine with the anticipation the it would close up slightly after the cam and valve train components had settled down, the recommended minimum preload being 20 thou.

The question is basically is this the norm for Hi rev lifters, the lifters do quieten down within approx 20 seconds of starting so am I just being paranoid as ususal.

The same thing used to happen with my hi-rev lifters in another type engine. It did cause more ware on the cam but I didn't really break the cam in correctly either. I didn't really answer your question.

Anybody else?

High rev lifters are just normal lifters with a sloppy internal bore. So yes, they will bleed down. You may lessen the effect by going to the maximum preload.
