G-Force Gears
HOLY CRAP! I GOT MY GEARS TODAY! Ha ha ha ha ha hah ah ah h hahahhaaaa.... (ringing my hands) WOOOOOHHOOO.

Ok so I spent a while unpacking my gears and they look great. The machine work is really nice. I set everything out and took a few pix but they really weren't better than the ones right on the website so I won't bother posting them.
I'll update the thread when I get into busting the T5 down for rebuild. That should make some good pix. I'll try to keep close track of it in case the info is useful for anybody. |

It'll be useful to me. I'm going to tear down and rebuild that T10 when time permits--hopefully over the winter. I've done my usual listing of obscure and used car parts as proposed Christmas gifts, including a T10 rebuild kit--and my family will no doubt buy me some pants and CDs instead. Don't they know "that old junk" is gold to us???!!!
I've got a manual with some decent black & whites, but it'll be cool to see someone doing the job today with (presumably) tools shy of a machine shop's. 'Course you're building yours to put up some sweet trap speeds on the quarter, and I'm building mine up because my 1980 gearbox ain't old enough. The fun factor on the workbench is identical, though. heh. |

I'd love to see it too... buy why is that old Aamco commercial ringing in the back of my mind... you know, the one where the guy at the no name shop says "let me fix it boss... I always wanted to fix a trans-miss-sea-on" :)

Ok I got sidetracked. I planned on beginning this week but no luck. It got too cold. I think I can cook some at it this weekend. It shouldn't take long once I get started.

Wouldn't know Nicolas... bitter cold here is 40* & we only get a couple of weeks of that sort of nasty weather each year... one of the reasons I live in TX after living in Michigan & Kansas earlier in life!

I finally got to the disassembly. I've got TONS of pix. It as really a pretty simple job. I'm going to use the empty trans on the back of the empty block to mock up the engine mounts and trans mounts so it will be a while until I get to installing the gears.
I'm still planning on a comprehensive G-force gear upgrade article though. I'll keep you all posted. |

I assembled the main shaft this past weekend. It was really great. The parts were just the right size and by using the dogs it reduced the overall number of parts significantly. The moving parts for shifting was reduced to just two sliders. Cool.
The other thing I noticed was the large difference in width and apparent strength of the G-Force gears. I took a bunch of pix and I assembled the first part of the article. I'll be able to continue the build after I finish the header fabrication. It's easier to use an empty case for the mock up than the filled case. Thanks for tuning in. |

I finished the mount/crossmember for the T5 install. This is the crossmember I fabricated for it:
I had to fabricate an adaptor to the mount I had on the saginaw4. Here's a couple pix of that: 
You can see that the Ford Tailhousing mounted on the GM main case attached to the bellhousing puts the base at about 5º angle. I fabricated an adapter for the trans mount. Here's what it looks like mounted on the trans:
