Source for brake M/C

The Mark-I MGB used a metal canister type 3/4" bore M/C, the early Spitfire used the same M/C with an 11/16" bore.

I need one with a 5/8" bore.

Does anyone know what car that was used in?

Might try Wilwood

Lots of motorcycles use 5/8"bore cylinders but might not be configured right for your application.
Austin Mini had a .70" bore master.

Thanks Graham, that'll be the last resort as I'd have to reconfigure the line(s) and I'd rather have matching M/C's. My balance bar needs a little help as it is at the end and still needs more.

I'd like to stick with the tin-can reservoir OEM type if I can find one. The Mini is a little closer than the Spitfire/Midget one but my calculations indicate the 5/8" would be a better match.

Might investigate re-sleeving your 3/4" M/C and getting a 5/8 rebuild kit and piston.(you're good at lathe work)

Do it yourself or have White Post do for you.

Actually that was wrong, the 11/16 bore is less than .700" so the Spitfire M/C would be better than the Mini.

But my guess is that an earlier car, maybe something pre-disc brake would have used a 5/8" bore.

Jim,

You might look into a clutch master cyl from a Midget, Sprite, or a Spitfire. If memory serves me they are smaller than the brake cyl.

I assume that you want a dual circuit M/C (rather than a single)
Might not be anything out there that small ......I still maintain that sleeving is a viable option.

Actually Graham I'm looking for a single circuit M/C and would also consider a clutch M/C. I have a twin master/balance bar setup, with dashboard adjustment knob. Currently both M/C's are 3/4" bore just like the mark I and II cars use.

Apparently the Minx used a 5/8" M/C for the clutch which I think would work, Lockheed No. 4223-917 Where to get a new one is the question.

If your looking for a basic single circuit master, check the Dorman website for clutch masters . Here's one 5/8" bore example for a Ford Courier.

That Dorman does look pretty good. I've sent Kelvin a note to see if maybe Moss might have the Minx part. If not I may have to go with one of those types.

Thanks Graham, I just sent them an email.

Moss has the .700" one for the midget.

I'll post a photo when it gets here but as far as I can tell it looks just like the early MGB round tin can master. (or clutch M/C which is what it is) May be zinc galvanized rather than cadmium chromated.

Application is Rapier Minx, part number is Lockheed AP # 4223 - 917.

No longer being made according to one source. N.O.S. like I mentioned, no idea how many are left. My guess, not many.
