Dangerous brake mounting !
I have been constructing cars for over 50 years and know when and how to mount master cylinders and have recently noticed that some of our builders have installed the brake or clutch master incorrectly!
The original car manufacture placed the master cylinder so that it would be level regardless of the angle of the firewall to which it is mounted, for example a Triumph TR6 has a master cylinder that is mounted at an upward angle but the fluid reservoir is fastened to the master cylinder so that the fluid always remains level. This is important as the orifices that fill and refill the master cylinder are positioned correctly! this is to insure proper brake function on level ground or going uphill or down hill. If you choose to use a non original master cylinder make SURE it is mounted with the reservoirs LEVEL! I have noticed many cars on this site with the master cylinder and reservoir at the wrong angle ,this is dangerous practice and should be corrected. D.R.Costello C.E.T. Edited 1 time(s). It is always not level when going around a corner.

I suppose there is more chance that the ports will be uncovered when ascending or descending a long incline, if the fluid level is already low.
Worse with the flatter wider reservoirs. In the same way, carbs do not like to be tilted. Which is why SU developed the concentric. I wonder how far out of kilter it would need to be to create a practical problem. Ivor |

Yes, the ups & downs around her is what I was referring to.
My B made it all the way down Pikes Peak without any brake issues. That is a lot of downhill. |
