What do you think of painting a MGB in a two tone scheme ?

(I hope you'll forgive me for moving this thread to the body and trim forum... It just seems like this forum deserves more attention than it gets.)

I personally think "two-tone" works best when the difference between the two shades is subtle. Paul and Mary Schils brought their very newly completed MGB V8 roadster to our meet in June. (Hopefully we'll have a "How It Was Done" on the car soon.) That car is a symphony of subtlety. Elegant! Here's a snapshot:

On the other hand, two contrasting colors can look great. Do you consider that two tone? I don't... This is a marvelous look: (and YES, of course it really is an MGB)

I guess it goes without saying... I'm a fan of big, bold racing stripes too.

No Problem Curtis, I'm new and I guess I just have not learned where I should post. I posted this in another chat and it got a lot of attention . I had never seen a true two tone MGB before and several came out of the wood work.
I thought the car would look good with two tone paint and am a bit surprised that with all the years it was made that the factory never offered it. The Corvette had some two tone paint and two tone paint is popular, guess the Brit's don't care for it ! I made this picture in Photoshop to see what one would look like and I liked it.
Thanks Will

Probably a lot of us already saw the thread on the other board.

I don't know why MG didn't offer two color paint schemes... but of course they did make two special edition MGB series which featured stripe patterns along with fancy wheels. We have a bunch of "LE" MGB's in the photo gallery... but are you familiar with the "Jubilee" special edition? They're not so frequently found on the left side of the pond.

Steve ,
I like it ! Reminds me of the red and white on the early 'vets, I like where you made the breaks very much Healy inspired.

Steve,

Sure would be great to see your car at one of the BV8 Meets - that color combo kinda gives it an old so/cal look!

I would say it would depend on many factors.
1. PERSONAL PREFERENCE or LIKES (the most important)
2. Color choices
3. Where the break in colors are

I see a lot of cars where just the roof will be a different color but that will not be an issue on a roadster/convertible. Personally I like the where you broke up the colors in your photoshop as it would be the most logical choice but I am not 100% sold on the color combination.

Fellows,

MG did offer any number of two tone cars... Or as they called them, duo-tones. Mine happens to be duo-tones Red (Carmine and Saratoga reds) 1935 MG-PA, from the factory March 1, 1935. Also see Ns. NBs, the entire T series, Ks, Ls, and most all the pre-war cars. MG were so desperate to sell a car, they even painted one (think it might have be a PB) with large poke-a-dots for the lady buyer. Don't forget, the original MG racing team wore the "Cream Crackers" Tan and Brown.

If I had to guess, After the war, MG didn't offer duo-tones As& Bs because of the hassle of placing special orders... and concentrated on cranking our as many cars, at the lowest cost, as the US market could absorb.
I remember the local MG Dealer in KC area re-spraying a custom car or two to satisfy a customer requirement.

I've attached a shot of mine, plus a couple of real stunners!
