MG-B trunk carpet mystery holes
Posted by: DonB

Just bought standard trunk carpet kit from V/B. Since I have chopped up the car to acheive several body mods, I understand large square carpet hole on right and will patch.
However, there are two "slots" on the left side I don't understand. Both are roughly 1.5" horizontally... one is centered on left side of rear wall. The second is directly below on the edge of the "shelf" for the clearance of the rearend and axle housing. They look to perhaps provide a place for a tie down strap or something but I see no evidence of a prior bracket or fixing point.

Too big for moths and not near any Lucas wiring for smoke holes. What goes?
Thanks
Don B.

What about the original spare tire mount?

They are for the straps that hold the factory issue screw jack in place.

Thanks guys for the comments.

Jacques, Spare tire hold-down bracket is present and welded (left of center) to trunk floor. The V/B kit came with correctly placed hole in the new carpet.

Steve, perhaps I covered the strap fixing points (no old straps present) when I covered the rear wall with hush mat two years ago! Do you have a picture of the jack properly mounted?

In any case...
Thanks
Don
