Mt Buller Sprint, (hill-climb), Australia.
Spent the weekend playing in the TR7V8 again, this time competing for the first time in the annual Mt Buller Sprint.
The run is over 15.5kms, rises 1000 metres from start to finish, and consists of approx 150 corners - fun! We came in 47/77 overall, 6th in combined Classic and 3rd in Late Classic so got a 'medal'. We were well pleased with the result as believe it or not we were one of the lowest powered cars out there - all Evo's, STi's and GTR's plus a few muscle cars and Porsches! Got 10 runs over the weekend and we set our best time in the very last one, bettering our previous best by 10 seconds. Included in our 10 runs were a spin, and an off without damage; the biggest drama in the 'off' was the exhaust trying to start a fire with some dry leaves it came to rest on! Have included some links to in-car footage plus a few pics below:- [www.youtube.com] [www.youtube.com] [www.youtube.com] Cruising back down for another go: |

What the off looked like from the outside:-
As I said, got away with it, no damage, just stuck! Changed the pace notes after this attempt - no more problem. Once we were towed back up onto the road, we just fired it up and drove back to the service park. |

Whew! What a relief to know that car and driver are both okay.
That TR7 certainly is photogenic. Years ago, I thought I was building my MGB GT V8 for hillclimbs. Before we got very along into the project, my friend's dad slid off course at the Chimneyrock hillclimb and broke both legs. I still wanted to build a hillclimb car, by I decided maybe someone else should drive it! Well, my friend's dad healed and he has won a whole lot of hillclimbs since that shunt. He's so much braver than I am. Biff Bowland: I envy you guys! |
