Art, from the SCCA General Competition Rules page 322.
"If a sequential shift gearbox is used, the car must carry
a weight penalty equal to 1.25 percent of the weight as listed
on the spec line. If a synchromesh engagement transmission
is used, the weight may be reduced by 1.25 percent of the
weight listed on the spec line. A synchromesh gearbox is one
having a friction mechanism to allow engagement."
From this I would expect that a "dog box" type transmission which is pretty much the standard in SCCA would be considered "frictionless" and incur no weight penality or allowance. We're currently running a standard type T5 so we get a weight reduction of 1.25%
