What is the best ignition system for a carburetted 4.5l V8 (Tuscan Challenge spec) race engine? Best distributor. best ignition controller, best coil, best combination?

Thanks

Drew

I'm not familiar with the Tuscan Challenge rules, and probably most of the folks on this board aren't. Can you fill us in on the rules? Would it be within the rules to run crank-fired (direct) ignition and multiple coils?

This is the old Tuscan Challenge spec which is basically a 4441cc Rover V8 engine with a very high spec head. I suspect the best set up is a Mallory Unilite Distributor, Master Blaster 2 coil and MSD Digital 6AL control box with Morosi 8.5ml leads but I am sure there are people on this site with much better knowledge.

One question would be- is the MSD Pro-Billet distributor better than a Mallory Unilite?

Any help gratefully received.

Drew

MSD Is better. The unilite has module issues that can burn out without any notice and well only fix is to carry a spare.

Thanks for your input. MSD was favoured on the other sites i checked, although surprisingly John Eales' view was that none show any discernible advent age over the stock Lucas set up.

Have gone with the MSD 6AL Digital, MSD Blaster 2 coil and MSD Billet Race distributor, Moroso 8.5mm leads. Hopefully will do the trick. Living in hope that it will make a difference.

Cheers

Drew
