John said the conical springs i have aren’t stock and I’m assuming they may need to be changed with the diff valves??

Which springs did Jon use with his valves?

Re: Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.
We originally wanted Z28 springs which are good replacement for stock. Previous owner had heads cut for larger diameter beehive springs so the machine shop went with 70 Camaro LT1 springs and Comp Cams 11 degree retainers with stock Buick/Rover keepers .I'll send you links. Probably your best bet.

All should work fine with the larger Rover valves. I added the link for the retainers above. Laptop battery died.

Does he know this for sure or is he thinking they did not have them back then? The Olds 215 had conical or beehive springs as OEM. |

Scott, Call TA and Egge on the Buick 11/32" 11 degree Keepers/Locks, British call them Collets. TWS has the Rover one's at $5 something a half and you need 32 pieces. Rimmer was $6 something!

OK, I ordered the larger valves from Rimmer and the 11 degree retainers from Summit. Thanks!!

TA doesn't show 11 degree 11/32” keepers. They have them for 3/8” application. They have 10 degree for the 11/32’. Calling Egge now.

Re: Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.
If Egge doesn't have them TWS has the best outrageous price. American parts are around 4 times cheaper usually. Did you order the Z28 springs too, the retainers won't fit the beehives.

Usually best to call TA about parts they do not list. Often they either do have them or can get them.

Re: Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.
I ordered the Z28 springs; John doesn’t think the head was machined for larger springs.
I called TA on the Keepers and he said they were hard to come by. He said he had a set but they weren’t for sale. He said it might be easier to find them on a junk Rover motor. Rimmer was double the price of Egge and they were a back order item. Egge said they could get them but wanted to confirm the estimated delivery time before taking the order. Edited 1 time(s). Re: Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.
Maybe they are the stock beehive springs and your pic's perspective made them look bigger. Z28 springs work great. That is a typo saying 118lbs closed. Really 110 @ 1.70 installed. Use 1.72 for 95lbs.

Re: Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.
The Egge Machine rep was going to call me with a ETA estimate on the keepers before taking my order. He didn't call back. I’m wondering if the TA guy is right and these particular keepers are very scarce over here. Rimmer Bros might be the only source, other than a salvage yard with a wrecked Rover.

“Wanted” ad in our classified section?
Or maybe call D&D Fabrications? (I think they used to have used parts too.) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/27/2025 10:08PM by Moderator. |

I'd call Egge Monday, The Wedge shop was a little cheaper than Rimmers. Curtis's idea may be the best deal.

Re: Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.
If TWS has them, thats less than Rimmer when shipping is figured in and euro exchange rate and all that (and they dont have 32, they have 8 or 9 and the rest are back order). Once I confirm Egge cant get them at $1 a piece, we’ll call TWS.
Thanks guys! |
