WTB: 4.6 Rover short block
Looking for a 4.6 Rover short block, but will consider whole motor. Cross bolted perferred. I'm located in the Washington DC metro area, so sellers outside a reasonable drive need to consider crating and shipping support. Thanks in advance.

Re: WTB: 4.6 Rover short block
Thanks. Sounds like a sweet motor, but as you suspect, this is way more motor than I'm looking for. Also, I'm looking for a short block, no heads. The plan is to put this in a 1962 F-85 wagon, and I plan to adapt Olds heads. Yes, I'm aware of the differences in the heads.

Joe, Mind sharing your plan on "extra" bolts in heads ? Thanks, roverman.

[forum.britishv8.org] I'm assuming I'll need to machine threaded plugs for the holes, then tap the plugs for the rocker stand bolts. Note that the Olds heads have the same oil feed hole as the Buick/Rover heads next to the sixth head bolt hole. This passage angles up to the head bolt hole and up the rocker stand. So long as I don't cover the feed hole, oiling should be no problem. I'm planning on just using the four Rover head bolt locations. |
Re: WTB: 4.6 Rover short block
I have a 4.0 cross bolted rover currently available to be test driven in my TR8. 9.35:1 CR, late model heads, ported and polished with big valves and custom erson cam, made 219 RWHP on the dyno, under 3,000 since new, that I am looking to sell. Will make more power then your 4.6 with olds heads as is. let me know if you're interested.

Re: WTB: 4.6 Rover short block
I appreciate the offer, but I want the Olds heads for appearances. The car is a 1962 F-85 wagon, not a drag car. I'm not looking for all out HP, but torque for a family cruiser.

Re: WTB: 4.6 Rover short block
I have a 4.6L removed from a Range Rover two years ago. Cross-bolted mains. It would need to be gone though, I pulled it two years ago from a theft recovery car. I can get more details.
I have a 4.2L (Towery built) in my '62 Skylark with a ZF four speed autobox behind it. I would need $400 plus shipping to DC for the short block. (Forward Air) I have a spare flywheel if you are interested. Trades for a 4speed bellhousing are welcome. Curtis. |
