Dodge Omni flare question
I'm contemplating fitting Dodge Omni flares on my MGB so that I can use wider tires for traction; my question is, do you use the front fenders only, or do you have to use the front and rear fenders? This flare business is such a pain (LOL)
Thanks, Jacques |

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
You can use both the fronts and the rears, the rear flares are a bit more difficult to cut from the donor car and have a bit less sheet metal surround where they meet the rear door opening on the Omni. Flare width is the same front and rear. They're getting harder to find, but it would be a bit easier if you could find 4 front flares I'd think. If you need more width then you can extend the flares by adding material like Rick Ficalora did, Check out his project threads in the MG pages.

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
Here's an ebay vendor that sells new jobber front Omni fenders. A bit pricey, but maybe someone could talk him out into cutting the flares off and ship all four of them.

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
I used four front fender flares for my roadster that I found at two "Pick and Pull" yards.
The rear flares were quite easy to install. The front flares were a little more difficult to get looking right because of the compound curves. But after weeks of sanding, filling, etc. I am finally happy with the shape of them (the photos don't really do them justice). |

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
Thanks for the photos Chris, it looks real nice. So far, I'm trying to avoid doing anything with the fenders, however, if I have too serious of a traction problem then I intend to increase the width of the rear tires. If I have to go that way, there's no other way that I can think of to avoid flaring the fenders.

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
You could tub the rear & narrow the rear axle... but that'd be a ton more work.

No worries Jacques,
If you decide to go the omni flare route, drop me a private message and I'll send you some more photos and installation suggestions (not instructions because every car is different!) Cheers, Chris |

Jacques,
The flares on your B are perfect - the way the factory would have made them. Masterful ! keep them on the track, phillip g |

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
Chris well done. The cool thing about doing these flares (besides making our "Bs" look so much better) is that no 2 people do them exactly the same. What size tires are you going to be running?
Again great job |

You going to be on the road this summer Chris?
If so I might have to take a trip up there to take a look Bruce |

Re: Dodge Omni flare question
Jacques, I didn't mean to seal your thread. Sorry!
Joe, I'm running 225/50/15s on the car. I studied your flares for quite a while before doing mine. Great work! Bruce, I am going to be painting the undercoating this week so I expect the topside paint to be on in two weeks tops. Then it's more wet sanding.... The goal is to have it on the road for this spring. I have all the parts I need except for a few small pieces. By the way Bruce, I am pretty sure I saw you in your B two years ago on the road between Vernon and Kelowna. If it wasn't you, someone has a car that is very similar to yours! You are definitely welcome to drop by for a visit. Or better yet, come up for my Brits in the Sticks event in September. We had almost 30 cars last year. Think great conversations, twisty, fun backroads, and a post event barbeque! Cheers, Chris |
