5.0 GT pictures
I took a few pictures today that I thought I'd share. At the pace I work (hour here... hour there) this is what 8 years, 2 job changes, 2 babies and 40% less hair will get you. I'm ready to strip it down, put it back on the rotator and paint it. Now for the hard part... what color? I really don't know, but I've narrowed it down to white, red, blue or orange. Or maybe green.

Hey, every hour you get to work on it is an hour closer to being done... Plus, the kids are only young once. Glad to hear you're making progress! Sounds like you're on the home stretch.

Re: 5.0 GT pictures
Sure brings back memories, how close is the alt to hitting the hood? What are you useing for the FI harness?

Re: 5.0 GT pictures
The alternator fouls a 'b hood but I'm using a 'c hood, fits fine. I'm planning on using a stock harness that I'm modifying, I'd like to hide as much of it as possible.

Ryan
Are you going to use Mustang harness and sensors or are you going to try and figure out the T-Bird, Lincoln harness. Joe |
Re: 5.0 GT pictures
Joe, it's all straight out of a '94 mustang gt that I bought at a police impound auction. The intake from the '94-'95 mustang is the same as the t-bird intake. What mods have you done to your motor? At first I'm going straight stock '94 gt, but at some point down the road I'll probably want to warm it up a little. I'm pretty attached to the efi, but I've read horror stories about the '94-'95 computer not liking mods at all.

Ryan, looking good! Love the nice selection of tools shown, just the perfect one for a conversion. ;-) I must admit I used a BFH in more than one place on my Midget.

Re: 5.0 GT pictures
Ryan
I beleive that the 94 Mustang runs a Speed Density system and yes the computer will need to be re written to make any engine mods. The older Mustangs ran a Mass Air system and that you can make a lot of mods and the computer will do ok. At the moment my Motor is stock and to be honest it has plenty of power "BUT" I have plans, Heads, Cam and port the intake. Joe Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/03/2009 08:58PM by MGB SS. |

Re: 5.0 GT pictures
I too like how prominently Ryan features the hammer in the photos :). Ryan, are you going to paint it yourself? I plan to do mine myself and am still wrestling around with the colors. I had planned to use the Duplicolor Paint Shop but after looking at the colors from Summit Racing now, I may end up trying their paint system out.

Re: 5.0 GT pictures
I can't even remember what I was mashing with the hammer! But it's a fitting juxtaposition for this project.... big word, huh? Michelle, I will paint it myself. I'm not the best painter, and it would get done sooner if I paid someone else, but it's something that I enjoy doing. At least I enjoy the idea of it. I've only used ppg omni in the past, I'm thinking of stepping up in paint quality for this one to see if it makes any difference in the finished quality. I'm betting the Summit pain is simply a rebranded low end paint line. Not that there's anything wrong with a low end paint, I consider omni low end and it is fine. For example, check out the Kirker kits this place offers: [www.smartshoppersinc.com]

Re: 5.0 GT pictures
Looks great Ryan,
Switching to mass air just takes an earlier mustang harness and computer - should give you more tuning options. Some of my early ford bronco friends have it documented pretty well. There's also a few vendors that sell conversion kits/harnesses. Your motor looks pretty low like mine - did you have to notch the rail for the remote oil filter housing at the block? Where are your headers from (bought/box of bends/custom/fabbed)? PPG has a urethane that's pretty easy to work with - step up from the omni. I like the omni - I have it on my old bronco - pretty easy to touch up (it's mostly a trail truck - so it takes a beating). |
Re: 5.0 GT pictures
Thanks Tom. My '94 engine is mass air, the difference is that the older mustangs had EEC IV computers and they switched to the EEC V computer in '94. It's fine as-is for now. I read the forums at stangnet.com and the common complaint is that the EEC V computer doesn't like mods unless you modify the programming. I'm not going to worry about it until I get the more-power itch.
You know, now that you mention it I kinda wish that I had notched the rail for the filter housing. Instead, I mounted the engine a little off-center to the passenger side. I bought block hugger headers from Speedway Motors, cut the flanges off and used a couple u-bends to modify them to their current state. They look okay, not great. |
Re: 5.0 GT pictures
At least it's pretty easy when the itch strikes. Now that I'm looking again I'm remembering you moved things over. For the headers - I think they look great - especially compared to spending a grand on them.
