Griff T5 to Ford 302 - help needed!
Guys,
I have a Healey project and my initial plans was to go for a Griffith 500 and a Tremec T5 (WC). Change of plans, I will keep the T5 but part with the 500. Now opting to go for a Ford 302. I know the 302 runs with a T5 in newer Mustangs but I'm not sure about the input shaft. Has anyone mated the TVR T5 with a 302. Can it be done? If so, what apart from the obvious as bellhousing do I need to consider. TVR clutchplate.. Any help on this is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance/ Jonas |

I think your best bet is to get a Mustang T5 and matching bellhousing/flywheel/clutch and avoid any adapter problems. Note that the tailhousings on T5 easily swap among transmissions, so you can swap the TVR tailhousing onto the Mustang trans if shifter location is an issue.

You might swap out the input shaft but then the case would probably not match the bell. Though I did hear rumors of Camaros with Ford transmission/bellhousing patterns. Doesn't really help though.

Thanks Guys,
Damn, I though or at least hoped that this was an easy one... I'm close to a deal with a fantastic 302 (360 bhp) priced reasonably. It's probably as Joe said.. even though it hurts cos I worked hard to source the T5. Crap! Need to go and think for a bit.... BR/ Jonas |

The GM T5s used from about 1993-up did use the Ford case and bolt pattern. These transmissions had a GM input shaft, however. Even the Ford T5s used different length input shafts over the years, so you need the bellhousing to match.

Ok, is there a simple way of determining if it can be made to fit. Bolt pattern, Shaft length, splines? Does Ford run 11 spline shaft or?

I don't think there's a way to do it if it uses the GM bellhousing pattern, at least not a simple, cheap and easy way. You could get a GM T-5 case and put your gears in it, but it'd be easier and maybe just as cheap to just go get a GM T5. Plus you could sell yours. Or make a trade. Post it in the classifieds, there might be someone who wants to swap the other way.
